I remember back in the 80s where only Anixter gave us a color choice between gray or beige. Our local Graybar only stocked, well gray. I was never a fan of "Band Aid beige", so I never bought it anyway. Did beige ever really blend with much of anything?
I did insist upon ivory for quad (D Station wire) and 3-pair (H Station wire) though.
Of course, plenum cable was only available with a clear jacket then.

Thanks for the input everyone. I see that I have telephone and internet cable colors reverse from what you guys use. I guess I should change that to reflect what is more commonly installed.

Gray or white for telephones and blue for data.

On existing networks I match what they already have. On new installations I have no preference. Whatever the customer wants I use. I remember wiring my old employers building. The ceiling was open and the owner is an Michigan State alumni. Green and white cable runs in cablofil.

Around here, most people don't care about the cable, but a lot of times they want the jacks to match school colors...I have seen that on quite a few jobs.

White for voice and Blue for Data the norm for us. We will match the plates and voice jacks to whatever sparky has. The data jacks are usually orange or blue.
All the school jobs we do are S/S plates and Blue cat 6 jacks. We are not running voice for the new projects, just cat 6 everywhere. The AP's are yellow to match what they have as well. We run a 50 pair feeder from the main phone system room and terminate on a cat 5E patch panel, one pair per port. This way they can have a phone at any location in the rooms they want, We use grey patch cords for Data and Green for the voice. Works really well. We have just finished 4 new 2 story building and just got the contact to do two more this summer.
Guess we are doing something right.

I love the sites where the customer requires:
2 White Voice cables terminated 568A 2 White Data cables terminated 568B
at each location. It sure keeps you on your toes.

Jack Ditto here. Not my personal decision, but by my employer. White for Cat5 or Cat6 and Blue for Cat3. D

I think you would have a hell of a time trying to find blue CAT3. That's why most of us have adopted white or gray for CAT3 because that's what's available. CAT5e and 6 is easily available in many colors.

-Hal Oddly enough, blue cat 3 is pretty common here (Denver area) and easy to find. I see it on jobs that we didn't originally install all the time. We typically use Graybar or a local supply house called Com-Cables. I have always used white for voice and colored cable (blue, yellow or gray) for data before I worked here. D
