I think that there must have been a particularly malignant infectious disease floating around out there in the late 40's to early 60's. I would call this illness the "telephonus lampus syndrome". Simply put, it is the undeniable desire to convert old telephones into excruciatingly tacky table lamps. Everyone has seen the stick phone to lamp conversion, I have seen 500 sets, 2500 sets, a payphone, a wall phone that someone put a 70's era "high intensity light" fixture onto complete with articulating spring arm, etc and etc.
Here is the latest example of completely bizzar (bad) taste in table illumination:
I cannot believe this. Someone painted a wonderful old phone some crappy creamy color, then stuck a cheap five and dime lamp rod and socket onto it. Gads.
Maybe someday, I will top them all if I can find two tops for my 555 board. I will drill one of them and put a stinkin' cheesy lamp on it! Now that would be the thing! (NOT!)
Forgive the rant.
