Also make sure you visit update.microsoft.com after you boot up your machine and get on the net. There were tons of hot-fixes that were released that did not make it into Dell OEM Releases installed on their machines.

One last thing. Make sure ALL of the drivers you are using in Vista are Vista x86 and x86 only. Some if not all of the 64 bit drivers are very unstable.

I still have a loaner with vista. It's a huge step backwards. It looks pretty without offering anything else significant (at least nothing positive.)
Huge resource hog too.
Alienware still sells puters with XP available.

Best way to jump into vist is to run a dual boot,

you install xp first then vista on a second partition,,,, super easy to do, google search there are a few tutorials

its like having 2 computers, all your programs will run great on the xp side.... then when you want to test or play with vista reboot to that os and play around knowing you can easily just boot back to xp where everything works

I have a 300g hd split in half its awesome...

I finally put my Vista machine in the corner and swapped back to my XP machine.

1. I run on a UPS. Every morning it would tell me: Your batter is low - it's current charge is 100%. To avoid losing work, Replace your battery. Or something like that.

2. The other day it said: Your hard disk is about to crash. Backup now and put in a new hard drive. Then it tried to walk me through a backup/restore. Yeah, like that would have went well.

Meh.

Funny...I have been running Vista on both my Dell desktop and laptop with no issues at all. One thing is, they either came with Vista, or were Vista ready with a Vista drivers disk.

Most people do not understand the IMPORTANCE of having the correct drivers installed. It makes all the difference in the world when it comes to making the machine run smooth.

Guess its hard to type on your cell phone keyboard with one hand while hanging onto the Empire State Building with the other.

King Kong, we encourage proper punctuation, grammer, spelling and capitalization around here. I know you are new but just keep that in mind. Others won't be so kind. This is a professional forum and as such we expect that you will exercise some familiarity with the above.
