Our local electrical inspectors don't even like to see an underrated load on a circuit in these parts. I think this isn't in violation of the NEC, so long as the line cord and disconnect can handle the increased current. This can be a big problem in server rooms. It gives the sparkys lots of extra business when the designers screw up.
