Acquired a Nitsuko 28I system for free. I understand to connect the telephones and lines you need something called a DDK cable? Part number 82492. Does anybody know where to get one of these. I want to avoid spending money, so is it possible to connect without one of these cables?

You can make one using an apple printer cable (8 pin mini-din male connector) and a d-sub 9 pin female connector (9 pin serial RS-232 connector) that you can find in radio shack. The pinout is in the Nitsuko manual. The Sun keyboard cable also has the 8 pin mini-din male connector. You can salvage the 9 pin serial connector from an old modem cable. Connect the cables using scotch-locks, beanies or elecric tape if you must.

But that is only half your problem because you have to have the NEC 28i/124i Windows PC program too. Just having hyperterm or procomm won't work. You can reset the password to default by removing the silver coin battery from the system.

It is much easier just to program the system through a phone. The manual is available online. Just google it.

But the fun is just beginning. If you also have the Vanguard voice mail system, you need a different cable for that. You also need the dos based NEC Vanguard voicemail admin program. The Vanguard cable uses a DB9 female connector (9 pin serial connector) at one end and an "RJ-45" connector at the other. Again the manual is available online and contains the pinout.

OOPS! The cable you asked about is the one that connects the line and extension cards to an expansion block like, for instance, a 66-block. You can google this part no. and buy one for about $45-$50. You could possibly find some small black connectors that would fit these pins in a computer store. They are similar to the connectors used in a PC computer for the power switch, reset button, sound header and USB header.

Also you might go back to wherever this system came from and see if the cable is still there. If the cable is already punched down to a 66-block, then take that too. If the cable was cut off outside the system box, then the connectors are still inside the system. They are small blue plastic rectangles with two wires going to each one. Just hook them up to a 25 pair cable or punch them down to a 66-block. It helps here if you know the telco color code: bogbrs wrbyv

ok well I think I found a ddk connector on ebay. The only thing is the guy selling it said it is for the portrait system but the connector he is selling has the same part number as the one for the 28i system. are connectors compatible across systems?

please provide a link to the auction or post a picture of the cable. Hint: does it have 25 little blue plastic connectors at one end?

like i tried to point out in previous posts, your challenge goes well beyond just getting the right connector. Did you get a voice mail system (separate box) with the Nitsuko system? Are you planning on adding voice mail?

Portrait DDK cables are 4 wire the i-series are 2 wire. They will not work.

Is this for your business, or a pet project for your house?

The i-series is a rather powerful system. If it is for your business, I would recommend Spending 2-3 hundred dollars, get a certified tech in there, and have them address your needs. $500 really isn't too much to invest in your livelyhood, and besides, you got a free piece of hardware.

As a forwarning, once you get this system hooked up you are going to find that you are not going to get much more than general user info on here. (read as: we are not going to program the system for you a post at a time)
