Rolm was one of the best until IBM got a hold of them! I didn't think being under IBM was that bad, it was the acquisition by Siemens that ruined Rolm. So many customers bailed after experiencing the 9006.

The downward spiral of Rolm definitely began with IBM. Computer geeks at IBM thought they knew more about how telephones worked than the actual Rolm engineers did.

This appears to be what has led to today's downward spiral of the industry as a whole. Far too many decision makers have fallen for the "just call Albert the IT guy. He can figure it out". And here we are today, standing with our hands out while a 140+ year-old industry was swept right out from under us. It's quite sad when you think about it.
