Not that it's relevant anymore to the topic title, but I thought I'd close things out by saying I got my hands on a reasonably priced J0816 with Impact Software Rev. 5b. I have a basic Impact phone on order to get started with.

Thanks for the guidance and advice, I'm sure I'll have questions on this at some point, which will go into a new topic.

Does your Impact set have a LCD display?

Not this one; I went for the cheapest possible I could find, in case the KSU didn't work when it arrived. It's an 8112N. I am hoping to branch out from there. grin

Good news is, I got it installed and tested it out with the 8112N. Did some basic programming to arrange my lines the way I wanted; set up prime line, etc.

In the good times before Y2K we were installing 4 of these systems a day. Surprising how many are still kicking along. The phones would wear out before the KSU croaked.

Ah the old Comdial. Great to hear someone still working on it. If I was you would get the DSU I black one. Alhought the DSU 2 had more features the software was flash loaded. If you dont have the software or the program to load it and the DSU 2 losses its programming you could be dead in the water

Jim - this is a good point. While I wound up with a DSU-II (they seem more plentiful) the DSU-I with it's module-based programming is probably more sustainable.

That said, I need to finish grounding and protecting my gear. Hoping to install a direct earth ground to the DSU-II grounding clamp, and also install 66 block surge supression as well to try to keep things safe. Oh...and a UPS, or possibly a good power conditioner with the OEM battery cabinet. Or both a UPS and the OEM battery cabinet, since I have other equipment I need to have backup power for in that space anyways.
