So, my operator's/programming terminal on an IDS died today. It starts up with the normal beep and test pattern. As soon as the test pattern goes away, I hear a short beep and there's a K in the lower right corner of the screen. Hitting ESC does nothing--no operator's screen, no password prompt. Shift+page/setup won't pull up the terminal setup screen. All three LED's on the keyboard are lit. Even with everything but the power disconnected and phone box unplugged, the same thing happens. Any thoughts? The system needs some significant programming changes, so I need this terminal to work!

Here's a link that sounds like it applys to your situation: operator terminal problem I might have time on Monday to get into their system remotely and recycle the baud rate like this 505BPD guy did...try the other suggestions first.

There might be a fix for this, I just can't remember, did you try holding down the Ctrl key while turning on the power?

As shown in barster's link, often turning the I/O port off then on fixes many things. Power cycle the PBX if possible. Sometimes resetting terminal to default - if using RS422 port at 9600 then on Terminal access config (CTRL Setup) arrow to "Default All" press F10, arrow to "Save All" press F10. Next to try is move to different PBX RS422 port if available.
If none of these do it, you could try configuring terminal to RS232 and move to RS232 I/O port on PBX. This requires wire changes and config within terminal, but can be successful if RS422 port in terminal or PBX are bad. Mike

I can't even get into the terminal's setup screen......even when disconnected from the KSU, it does the same thing. I would expect that with no connection to the PBX htat I would just get a flashing cursor....but i don't even get that. Just the K in the lower rihgt corner, all three keyboard LED's lit up, and absolutely no response from the terminal when trying to go into the setup screen.

If you can't get into the terminal setup screen I'd guess you're hosed... Mike

Turn the Monitor off. Hold the G key down while powering the monitor on again until you get the star pattern. This will reset the terminal to factory default. Then you should be able to get into the Monitor menu again by CTRL-ICM. Go to the F2 Menu and set the personality setting to Opt's Term.
