We have an IDS 432 that we retrieve the ACD reports from using a serial port logger. Lately though we have been experiencing problems retrieving the reports. Within system programming we define Port 2 as Printer 1 .... we can manually trip a report and see it appear on the loggin window of the PC. Within a few hours though the IDS programming changes (ALL BY ITSELF!!!!) and Port 2 becomes Printer 0 (or undefined) ..... PLEASE HELP !!!!

If all else fails, use a BFH.

Won't a serial port that's defined as a printer change back if it receives data?

Yes, a port that receives data will revert to printer 0 and/or turn SMDR off. If you're truly having trouble, you could try setting protocol to none and disconnecting the xmit (to IDS) lead. Mike

One thing though ... we have been using the same data collection software, and have not changed anys ettings or cabling ... why would this start to happen now ?

If truly nothing has changed, then it wouldn't. Usually something has changed; you just don't know it... If the collection software sends characters, especially ESC - it will reset I/O settings and begin a terminal session. Mike

OK ... this is getting tiring !!!
Printer number has changed, still the same result, disconnected rs-232 send line, still the same result. Never before have I seen a more frustrating issue. Hoping someone has a brilliant idea, or that this is sooooo simple I am missing one critical step.
Either the way ... word for the day is "HELP"!!!
