Well there is 32pr telephone cable, but it's meant for use within a CO. Comes in other oddball counts as well. 56pr cable anyone? https://www.superioressex.com/products/premises/spec-sheet/600b.pdf I just found that by accident today. The Ebay thing wouldn't suprise me though. Could also be second-hand from a salvage company.

Hal, I have always had great respect for the information you provide to this board. In most cases there are a few posters that I consider to be the last word on any subject they may post on. You have been in that honored category several times and I hope you take that as a sincere compliment. Your bold statement of "There isn't any such thing as 32 pair telephone cable" is in conflict with Clinton's post showing a link to................... https://www.superioressex.com/products/premises/spec-sheet/600b.pdf Note: I never said it was telephone cable, I just stated it was cable. Like others have stated, there's a good chance it's ABAM cable. You see it used with multiplexers, since you're dealing with 28 T1's.
DSX-1 panels in the CO are typically 32, 64, 84 or 112 position, with 84 being the most common.
Not sure what the building code requires, but most of the ABAM in our CO is CM or CM-R rated.

John, thanks for the compliment. If indeed it is ABAM it certainly is telephone cable but what I was trying to say is what are the chances that is what sparkie got his hands on? If so fine but we are all only guessing at this point. My gut feeling (and I could be wrong) is that this is some kind of multiconductor cable not normally used for telecom. Of course it occurs to me now that maybe we aren't even talking about a telecom application? I assumed we were. -Hal

I am dealing with US Navy management on this project. Their not very good at dispersing information, not intelligently anyway.
I will be onsite by the end of the week. I'll post more info when I get it.

Ding we have a winner. It is 5 runs of ABAM cable to be connected in a warehouse somewhere on one of the local military bases. As of yet I do not know what it will be used for. They might launch missiles from it for all I know. This will be my last post on this probably. Tomorrow I will be doing Black Opps.

Job completed. It was definately ABAM cable. Still have no idea what it will be used for.
Just so everyone will know in the future. The cable looks exactly like 25 pair from outside. First layer is the sheath. Next is the foil wrap. Under that is a plastic wrap. 25 pairs of cat3 unbound. 7 pairs of cat3 wrapped in blue binder.
This project called for traditional 25 pair. The reason 32 pair was used is the Navy had it in inventory on the base somewhere.
Thanks Friends, Everyone Lives another Day.
