I have a customer that wants to upgrade the phone system they have. The new system will no go the distance the old one did. I have a 100 pair cable going over poles about a half a mile or better. The old analog phones work. For what we want to do I need a network connection. Wireless is not a option. What equipment would I need to essentially provide my own 1.5 meg point to point on the cable I already own. I want to network two systems together and not pay qwest for a Pt to Pt or rely on the internet Thanks Randy

What kind of system? I remember on the Axxess you could do T1 networking of two systems with a T1 crossover between the 2 cabinets. This was a while ago though.

How about something like THIS using a pair of wires in the existing cable?

Like Ed's suggestion - we use the Patton ( www.patton.com) ethernet extenders - it is essentially making your own DSL. They work like a champ. Mike

If you need just ethernet, I've used these and haven't had a failure or callback with the 2 kits I've installed Link

The 110VDSLEXT VDSL Ethernet extender kit lets you span a 10/100 network over extremely long distances (up to 1km) while still maintaining high-speed network connectivity, allowing you to run the connection over standard RJ45 cabling, existing RJ11 phone lines, or any other set of single pair wires. standard RJ45 cabling, existing RJ11 phone lines L O F L

Arthur, are you challenging me to drag out my soap box with the day's topic being 'RJ' misnomers? I'm in if you are.
