I'm a phone system noob and have kind of an ugly situation. One of our sites uses a Toshiba CIX670 (with MAS) and then trunks into a Dukane StarCall system. The Dukane is used for paging and has rudimentary phone support.
What I need is to get the phones' MSG lights in the Dukane system to light up when the Toshiba MAS has a voicemail.
How is this typically setup with non-toshiba phone systems? Does the MAS send information via trunk or IP to the system it's connected to? Would the MAS just dial a kind of flexible access code into the non-toshiba system for call backs?
Sorry if this isn't as clear as it should be. I'm used to working with network switches and computers. I'm new to the whole phone scene.
Thanks in advance.

We will need some more info on the setup to accurately assist in helping. The MAS uses proprietary SMDI via serial or IP integration. If you want to light mwi via in-band, you would create a mbx and in the notification area create one using the standard in=band template.

First you would need to know the code to that turns on the message waiting linght on the other system.

Here's more info on the system before we switched over to the situation we have now.
Before: ------------------ -Cabinet with expansion across two buildings -3rd party old voicemail system in the 1st building (manufacturer unknown, but I can check) -StarCall phone/paging system in 2nd building supplementing Toshiba System -3 RSTU3's connected to the StarCall System configured to connect to StarCall via flexible access code #8 code in Toshiba System--can connect to Toshiba via Starcall by dialing 9 -3 RSTU3's connected to the old voicemail (might only have been 2 of them actually connected to voicemail)
Now (as of this summer): -------------------------------- -Same Cabinet with expansion across two buildings, but with updated processor -New voicemail system used (Toshiba MAS) located on another site -New voicemail system is tied to another CIX670 at our primary site -Both CIX670 systems are connected via StrataNet across our WAN -Same 3 RSTU3's connected to the StarCall System and configuration
I'm not aware of any serial connections or IP integration into the StarCall.
I'm not aware of a code to turn on the message waiting light on the other system. I'm fairly ignorant of the other systems functioning. We need to replace it, but in the meantime I need to get the voicemail functioning on it, unfortunately.
Is there an access code or anything that the StarCall might use over the BDKU3 analog cards to go to voicemail after so many rings? Apparently this system used to rollover to voicemail after so many rings and somehow it grabbed the right mailbox.

Really what you need to know is what triggers the StarCall to turn on its mwi's. Typically its a string of DTMF tones or in this case with the MAS, its more than likely an SMDI code delivered via IP. Either way you need to find out what the StarCall is looking for from the vm system that tells it to turn on/off its message waiting lights.

If you can get the dialing string needed to manually light the MWI on the Starcall we can start the process of adding the notification in the MAS.

I will head across town later today to boot up the old voicemail box and see if it had any codes to set the MWI light and post here later.
Using the StarCall RAPID program I poked around quite a bit, but couldn't come up with anything useful. I expected this, however, after seeing I had to manage it using a windows 95 compatible program that downloads the configuration via a COM port at 9600 baud...

Progress!
Sorry for the day delay. I poked around the old voicemail system and found the code for this Starcall.
MSG Light on: 7601E# (E = the extension) MSG Light off: 7600E# (E = the extension)
On my system I have to use #8 to access the StarCall. So for extension, 1820, for example, I would have a MSG Light on event dial #8,76011820# (comma being a pause).
Now, what I need to figure out is how to make the Toshiba MAS dial these digits for me on certain events.
I see in eManager, under Strategy ES -> Mailbox, then in the Notify tab, that there is an option to add an Event. Would this be where I enter the codes to turn the MSG lights on and off? And if so, what would I use for a PAUSE code and a code for an EXTENSION?
Also, I've got a "Quick Reference Card" for the StarCall system now too if anyone wants it. It's got this code and a page full of other codes.

Now what we need to know is what type of an Event? If using the MB Notify, this is for messages, Normal, Urgent, Pickup and a couple others. Is this the only event? or is there something special that needs to happen when a certain MB is dialed?

Whenever any message is left in a mailbox, I need it to notify this starcall system dialing this:
#8,7601E# (where E=extension and ,=pause 2 secs)
