when a page is sent to a station with this phone, speaker light is on, but not the mic light...when the speaker button is depressed for handsfree calling, the mic does not work...does this make sense?

Yes, it makes sense. It is not a speakerphone. It is a hands-free answerback on intercom only. It does not have a microphone. It uses the handset mic for the intercom functions. If you want a speakerphone, you need a 2010S or 2010SD phone. ------------------ Avaya Telephone Repair Toshiba Telephone Repair

Yes, Toshiba part numbers include a series of letters. In order to be a speakerphone, it must have an "S" in its part number, i.e. EKT6510S, DKT2010SD. "H" model phones are not speakerphones. ------------------ Avaya Telephone Repair Toshiba Telephone Repair
