Can a 50 be set up with a Linksys router flashed with DD-WRT (has VPN) and have a remote IP set linked with 2 DSL lines one at each location. One added hurdle is that I don’t have a static IP at either location. Also when you register the ip set do you first do it locally and then at the remote location how do you point it to the BCM Thanks Rick

As long as your VPN can stay up the IP phone should be just fine.

If your routers have the VPN setup correctly the addresses at the office will be something like: 192.168.1.xxx and the addresses at the remote location will be something like: 192.168.2.xxx
So the BCM would be say: 192.168.1.5 and the remote IP phone would be assigned an address through DHCP like: 192.168.2.101.
All you need to do is put in the BCM address as S1 on the phone. (You should be able to ping the BCM from any computer on the remote network to test VPN connectivity)

Thanks bu I have another question about the IP Phone First yes the BCM is 192.168.1.5 and the router or gateway is 192.168.1.1 Now the network that the ip Set is on I would assume that the router would assign the set an IP address so it could be in theory the same as the BCM on my network
If this is correct I swtill don't understand how the ip set gets to the BCM without port forwarding Or is that what the VPN is for Thanks

The VPN is a tunnel from the remote site to the main site. The VPN extends the network from the home site to the remote site. How are you connecting to the VPN from the remote site. If you using a router to connect to the main site, you program the phone for partial ip config. Put in the BCM ip address for S1 server. If your using a PC VPN program to connect then an IP phone won't work. A Soft IP phone should work.

I have the BCM on a network with a VPN router and I also have a static IP so Im using a service like DYNIP. I have created a connection on my laptop at a remote location and I can connect. So I know the VPN works. Do I have to first register the set first localy on the BCM. YOU mentioned programming the set with the IP is there any way to program the set with a domain name (this domain then points to my static IP) Thanks

I don't think you can set a domain nane on the ip phone. You are not going to connect to the VPn with the IP phone since you are using a laptop with a software VPN program. A softphone on the laptop should work since the laptop is establishing the VPN connection. You are going to need a VPN router at the remote site. This will allow the ip phone to connect through the VPN router connection.

Sorry this is getting confusing. First Im using no Laptop I just mentioned that as I was trying to see if the vpn I set up was working so I used my laptop. I thought that a vpn router was to go where the BCM was not at the remote location.
