Hope you guys can help. I have an Onyx VS system in our office. 8 different phones. This afternoon, I unplugged the line going into x302 and then plugged it into my credit card terminal. Afterwards, the phones for x302 AND x303 are dead. No lights, no dial tone. (If you look at other phones on the system, there is a constant red light on for x302 and x303, as if they were unplugged or in use.)

I consulted the manual and it says "To place a line or extension back into service:"
lift handset
press intercom
press PGM#
dial extension number
hang up

--- I have done this, multiple times from different phones... doesn't work.

Can anyone help? Please, it's such a mystery.
(we can live w/out x302, but x303 is vital. I gotta fix this problem)

What should/can I do?

I found this web site:
*please don't post links to manual sites nor installer level programing steps in the open forums...
--

I'm also thinking of just unplugging the Onyx and plugging it back in, but I don't want to do that if it is a stupid move.

Any help is appreciated!

I should be clear that the credit card terminal is no longer plugged into Onyx VS at all. Both x302 and x303 are back plugged into the network as they should be normally.

(The credit card terminal is tossed back in it's cardboard box, in the corner, in time out.)

as you've learned they are DIGITAL station ports to use your cc machine you need to use a analog port or a direct connection to a analog line

power up and down might work shouldn't hurt anything to try it

the system is old enough that you may have blown the station ports

intializing may or may not help really hard to say

you do realize you will need to totally reprogram if you do

The ports should be fine. I still use an Onyx VS for students in my cabling course. They do all manner of horrible things; shorting pairs, shorting ports together connecting analog lines to station ports, etc. I've never had a problem that didn't clear after cycling the power. Of course with any system that old you always run the risk of losing programming when you unplug it.

The ports on this system are tied together in pairs. Most faults that will bring one port down will actually bring down two ports.

I think the real problem here is the CC machine companies sending this equipment directly to the end user expecting them to install it themselves.

ok - thanks guys.

So, to "power down" do I just unplug the box and then plug it back in? Or, is there a power button?

Is there a way to save my settings, in case I lose all the programming? (not hopeful for that)

no switch , just unplug it from the wall give it a few minutes then plug it back in

there is no way to back up the programing other than going through each program first and noting how the programing is set
