I'm gonna have to agree wth you DRPBX, manuals only go so far. If the company is willing to pay for certification then I'm gonna take the course. It looks a little better on your resume anyway. I'm going to hire someone who know's the in and outs of the system rather than someone that opens a book and reads how to do things. I'm sure there are many tech's that rely on documentation to get things done. There are some key systems you can do that with such as the Northern's. All your programming is done from the phones. All in all I'll take the certification if they are willing to pay for it!!!

Obviously Ive just been in the business way to long anything they teach you in a class is in the book or it better be. If one has a basic knowledge of PBX & telephony & a well indexed manual there is no reason you cant install and program any system with just the manuals. However if one is new to PBX/Key System install & programming then yes school is for them. So if you are uncomfortable with putting in a system without factory training then it is probably for you. I've just put in so many systems over the years Im extremely confident that I could install any system (SL1 is an exception) with no problems. Ok so everyone get to school...LOL..

Don't know if it's too late but, The Installation and Maintenance course for the 2000 is pretty simple. You get to go through their course book and do a lot of stuff on a switch. Was bored most of the time though but had some fun goofing with the other people in the class, prank calls are still fun for some reason.
