We are getting ready to change out a customer's RAM1 card with a RAM2 card so they can get caller ID. Questions:

Does the RAMx card hold the system's programming? Are we going to lose all that by switching cards? Is there a way to retain programming in this scenario?

If I'm not mistaken you'll need the appropriate software version to support Caller ID in addition to the RAM 2. Chances are you're not running the right version if you have the RAM 1.

In which case you'll lose the customer's programming data and be required to re-program anyway.

Yes the Ram 1/2 card holds the customers programming. You may need to change the software depending on the version. If you are adding caller id then you must also have or be installing a misc2 card right?Install the misc card first. So in that scenario you could backup the programming with the misc card before you do anything else, upgrade the software if needed and convert the saved database to the new software version and upload it to the new Ram2 card.

Well first I would check and see what version you have.I believe 2.6 and 2.7 were both call display capable and the latest and last version is 2.8.Anything before 2.6 I think came in 2 versions ie call display or basic.

I checked the version, it is 2.6 Basic. So back to my original question, anybody know where I can get these chips? I've tried my normal supplier where I get the cards and they don't have them.

With version 2.6 you don't need to upgrade.
