Are you talking about programming the local directory on the MLX-20L, or are you referring to the Legend/Magix speed dial directory?

Otherwise you are talking about actual extension programming, and that isn't a quick answer question.

I am talking about recording a vocal dir of agents names and their extension number so caller can use a designated number to be taken to this dir. and then put in the extension they want and be transferred.

OK. MLX-20L is just a phone. As far as I know, it can only be connected to a Merlin legend or Merlin Magix system. First you need to determine which system you have and what type/revision of VoiceMail you have. For example, you may have a merlin Legend with a 007MLM voice mail card.

Programming instructions are available from Avaya's website. Simple questions can be answered here, but the setup & installation guide will be your best friend.

You are going to have to determine what voice messaging system you have also. You want to create a sub-directory.

The messaging system is Merlin 4 port card
I created a submenu for automated attendant 1 and 2.
I recorded the prompt This worked however when you punch in the extension you want the system says invalid entry.
There must be a step I am missing I assigned #5 to go to the sub and this works and the prompt plays but you can't punch in an ext number

The submenu has selector codes, just like the auto attendant does. So you must set the selector code that matches the 1st digit of your extension numbers to Direct Extension Transfer

Thanks Tommy, I knew I had missed a step. It works well now.
You saved the day. Our clients were getting pretty annoyed.
