is there a safe pair to send a tone on at the jack when wanting to find it at the ksu. thanks dave

The're all "safe", but the connected station port will mute the tone considerabily. If the station is working, and you can figure out the extension number, the Maintenance menus can give you the slot and port that it is connected to.

Or if it is a digital set with a display. Feature 00 will display the extension.

The brown pair in a 568 A or B config is not used by the Legend or Magix in most instances. Apply your tone, and test for loudness before going to the switch end,you should be OK.

The console uses all eight pairs on an older legend if it has a DSS. Just a thought to rember.

Customers move the stuff around and hire an electrician. Then they call and say, " my DSS wont work."

What upsets me the most is an after market voice mail on a legend. These are the guys I would like to hang by a rope.

i dont get a very loud tone on any of the pairs, and i show power on the brown pairs. i had a toner go bad when attempting to trace an extension on this system. this is the only legend i work on and i have someone else program it. im not familiar with the programming. its a large system and some extensions have 2 digit icm numbes and some have four. its been a challenge for sure. i may get a display phone and take it over there and mark the cards with the extensions. thanks for the info. dave

If you have someone else do the programming on the system, then simply ask them to make a print out of the extension directory.

A lot quicker than using a phone on each port.

If you plug your toner into the jack lose the tone volume. Take one of the wires with a clip on the toner and clip it to a good ground (like the center screw of an outlet cover plate). This will increase the volume of the tone again back at the frame.

You can find out the extension number by calling to an extension with a display, or Feature 00 at a display set.

With the extension number, go to the programming phone, and press Menu, Maintenence, Port, Station, then dial the extension number, Enter, Status.

Now you see a screen which includes the "slot/port", which is a 4-digit number. The 1st 2 digits are the slot, counting from the left with the Processor considered as slot 00, and the last 2 digits are the port counting up from the bottom of the card.

Don't be afraid of the system! It won't burn out your toner, but will clamp the tone down making it harder to find on the blocks. Knowing the extension number and thus the port is the key.

I have an eight port clam adapter and am using pins 1 and 8 to tone out a cable to 66 block. From there it's easy.

im printing this page, lots of helpful info. i need to replace a mlx 408 card and a friend told me to power the power cards down starting with the main and powering them back up startig with the last one. little by little im learing more about the legend. thank you all. dave
