I just put one together, gonna try it tonight. Anyone get this to work?

Yea! I threw one together a few months ago and incorporated it into a DB-9 hood. Works great but I didn't use the diodes.

ok I guess its about time to give something back to this board, I made two using a DB9 to lan adapter using the pinouts below. Costs: $3/ea for materials, an hour+ worth of buying materials and messing around with it. Only took 10 minutes to make the second one. I tested it with SPM and SMDR and both work fine. I used straight though connections (no resistors and caps) and I did not tie anything together.

CODE
rj-45
PIN 1 ORANGE 2 CD
PIN 2 GREEN 5 RD
PIN 3 YELLOW 6 TD
PIN 4 BLACK 3 DTR
PIN 5 RED 4 SG
PIN 6 BROWN 7 DSR
PIN 7 WHITE 8 RTS
PIN 8 n/a CTS
PIN 9 BLUE 1

Anyone know the maximum length of this cable?
Posted By: dexman Re: 355af adapter pin out!!! - 08/26/09 05:20 AM
The 355AF is an adapter, not a cable. Check the Install Guides for the system in question for the suggested maximum length.

It would be better to start a new topic rather than tacking on to one that "ended" 4 years ago. wink

Check the Install Guides for the system in question for the suggested maximum length.

Further, the adapter is used by a tech to administer the equipment. No reason to have any permanent wiring attached to it, so there will be nothing regarding maximum cable length in any documentation.

I think you also use a 355 adapter to connect a terminal or printer to the SMDR port.

Ive got a cat5 patch cord coming out of one to to a patch panel and then with a cat5 connection to a office on the other side of the building for call accounting

I would think the limitation would be the same as any Ethernet drop

Avaya's documents call for a 50 foot limit for a direct connection. Anything over that requires "Asynchronous Data Units"

That being said, I just installed a hotel call accounting system, using installed Cat-5, extending 2 serial ports (call accounting to property management system, and property management system to voice mail), probably 200 feet and working just fine.

A car dealership had a PC for WinSPM connected less than 50 feet away, and every time the PC was shut down, the Magix dropped all calls. We figure that the grounds were at different potentials.

I like the second diagram. And yes I realize that the 355 had many uses over the years. I saw WINSPM someplace and for some reason that was what I was thinking of. That's why it is always better to start a new topic with your information rather than tacking onto something that talks about a lot of other stuff.

I am a newbie to this site. 29 years in telecom, very little of it on Avaya products.
I found this post through Google.
I am planning an install of a Partner ACS Rel. 8 with the 5x9 processor.
All the official Avaya documentation I have read for direct connect shows a DB-9 laptop com port connecting with a a DB9-to-DB25 cable, then using an adapter to go from the DB25 cable to RJ45/Ethernet cable [patch cord] which will then allow the final connection to the RJ45 female plug on the face of the 5x9 processor.
It seems to me like Avaya [as usual] and everyone here is missing the point, this is a simple serial RS232 connection.
Why not use a DB9-to-RJ45 adapter coming off the laptop and go straight to the RJ45 female on the processor ??
It would probably be typical serial connector using 2-3 3-2 4-4 6-6 or 2-3 3-2 4-6 6-4 or something like that. I don't physically have the processor yet to monkey around with the pinouts but this, to me, seems like the simplest solution. Has anyone attempted this succesfully?

Thanks

 Don't ya think someone may have already thought of that?

Then again you could avoid the whole thing and program just as easily and even quicker from extension 10 or 11.

This should work

db9 rj45
2 5
3 6
5 4
8 7
7 8
4 3
1 2
9 1

Sorry, my columns didn't line up. The second row above (5,6,4,7,8,3,2,1)should be under the rj45 heading.

Thank you SUPERTECH2000 for your poignant and concise answer, as I would expect from a Master Jedi.
