Fan not working run light flashing red thoughts?
Replace the fan it will shut down
Replacing the fan is a pain in the ass from memory.
Also it was never a spare part so you had to source one from elsewhere.
actually your gonna hate me for this. But getting a replacement fan only took me a matter of minutes. Found one at americantelebrokers.com just cut the old connector off and splice new fan to it.
so far removing old fan was easy took me 6 minutes just take top cover off remove two screws holding fan in place pull fan out. remove cable from power supply install just opposite.
ok, i replaced fan. Fan is running but the run light is going between red and then green. over and over again. what does that mean? Also is there a way to find any error messages?
now VM doesn't work at all and getting this messages

If I remember correctly there are 3 pins to the fan.1 is a feedback to the system that tells the system the fan is running I think.Maybe the fan you got is not an exact replacement? Or you spliced the connector wrong?
i spliced it correctly the yellow wire is the LRA and got that connected. black is negative and red is positive. double checked connections all is good. the vendor did give me a substitute fan that i had to splice in no connector.
here is the error log fan out of order then 2 seconds later fan revovery this is with the new fan
Obviously the system doesn't like the fan, what more can you say.
Do u know what fan it does like? I read in this forum about a machtronix fan that reported good results no error codes. But the milliampere draw is almost double. Would that be a problem? Original is 0.70 ma this Mach fan is 0.110 ma
0.110ma is less than 0.7ma
I have seen different manufacturers in the 7100 cabinets. 1 is 0.07A so 70m ma and the other is 0.15A or 0.24A so 150 or 250ma. Minimal difference to the power draw I'm sure there is some built in excess power in the power supply.
The fan seems to be dependent on the climate zones for which the case was produced.
I have always seen two, one with a very high speed in the devices for CA, and one with a lower speed for the EU.
The yellow one is the TC (speed) signal, it reports the speed.
If this is too low, the power supply thinks the fan is defective. ping pong....
You can use a 3pin Computer fan controller witc TC callback.
So you can optimized the fan speed in order of the temerature, and give always full TC signal to the PSU.
Telesource has the correct ones if you are in North America.
