My boss recently bought a motel and it has an NEC Electra Elite 192 phone system in place. The problem is that everytime someone calls in to the motel, after the greeting plays and they can press 0 for an operator the phone system hangs up. I can't afford a service call at this point and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you absolutely have to do this yourself the first thing you need is the manual. Do you have the manual?

If you press 0 on ICM from any phone does it do the same thing?

I have found pdf files of the manuals online. I can pick up the phone at the front desk, hit 0 and it rings to the operator. I called the motel with my cell phone, which by the way is a local number to the area i'm in. I wait for the message to play, hit 0, and it rings through. My wife called shortly after on her cell phone which is an ohio number, waited for the message, hit 0, and it hung up.

This tells me that Operator is setup correctly as the Admin.

This tells me the voice mail dial action table is set up correctly.

This tells me that it's not anything to do with system programming. You cannot control where a number originates from.

Perhaps, someone with more knowledge can clarify if my statements are correct. It sounds like the DTMF sent by certain carriers are not being recognized as a valid entry or perhaps it's not receiving the tone at all.

If she has an iphone, then search the internet for iphone DTMF issue. You will find lots of complaints about tones not going through correctly, and some suggestions on how to correct it on the iphone. It's an iphone issue. Samsung seems to work well.

She doesn't have an iPhone. There are people that can call and get the operator no problem and there are others that when they call and press 0 the pbx hangs up. I wonder if there could be a bad card in the unit? Is there a certain module or card that detects the DTMF or is that the voicemail card? On a side note when you call in and listen to the message it is at a low volume. Also the BCLR led on voicemail card is orange. Problem is I don't know how to check for errors or what the proper shutdown procedure is for the system.

In that case follow the diagram on page 10-11 of the hardware manual. You can find this manual online also, if you haven't already.

Is there a way to have the call transferred directly to the operator after the greeting plays through instead of having to press 0 for the operator?

DAT table timeout to operator ext.

Is there anyone that can walk me through how to program this so after the message plays it rings straight to the operator extension?
