I have to replace a voicemail, switching out one VMS(4) U10 for another. The data on the old one is still good, it is just the hardware that is starting to fail. Is there a way to copy the programming from the old to the new?
Thanks,
It depends on what software version the old mail was. If it was DOS 6.65 and the new LX mail then I suspect your out of luck.. If the mails have the same software version you can back up the mail database from the old one and restore it back to the new one..
It isn't an LX mail, it is one that I will be logging into via CoSession. Can I do a backup and restore from CoSession? How?
After You Connect to The Voice Mail and are at The Banner Screen, Hit ESC. The VM will ask if You want to Dissconnect all the Lines? Hit "y". It will ask for Your Password(same as if logging into v.m.)It will bring up Menu Mode. From here is where you'll find Backup and Restore.
I assume that it will not backup any recordings though, just the configuration?
Its been awhile since I've done it, it may, You might want to tell the customer to retreve any MSGs they don't want to Lose.
I just did this yesterday.
Exit to the DOS menu and choose option 3 for the backup/restore process.
You have to have the BRU software installed on your pc/laptop. (as well as co-sessions)
wait 2 minutes and then try to connect with the BRU software. choose baud 19200 and then choose weather or not you want to back up just the database or the messages also.
A full backup will take about 15-20 minutes.

Depends on what software the mail has on it. From memory you can only use BRU on V 6.68 or later. For 6.65 you have to use Cos-session and I system suspect from memory that you can't restore a database backed up with Cos-session with BRU. The odd occasion that I have done this I have upgraded the 6.65 mail (if it will stay on line long enough) to 6.68 and then do the backup and restore to a new mail. I did the upgrade exercise yesterday to try and save a old DOS mail but it had a thermal problem with the main board and would only stand up for about 10 minutes before it crashed even if I put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes..
I don't know that I am familiar with the BRU, is that part of CoSession or a different program?
It is a different program, but comes on the co-sessions CD.

strange, I do not see it on my CoSession CD, newer than the old floppies I have.
The software tag on the new card says v6.68, so that means I need the BRU, but it is not on my CoSession CD. Anywhere else I can get a copy?
Never mind I got the BRU Utility. Then the sad part, I already had it loaded!
