I am having a issue with my paging but not all of the time. I have a CTX670 with 5 zones. We have about 90 digital phone and about 20 of those are setup to recive an all call page through the phone. When some does a #39(all call) most of the time it works fine coming over the overhead speakers and the phones fine. But sometime when some one does a #39 the person will start the page and the phone will cut out but the rest of the page can be heard on the overhead speaker. But it does not happen to all phone for example user with the ext 567 will have the problem but will not I have the page with through my phone. I can not pin point it to a certain phone or zone. Any ideas. help

have you checked your power factor???

if you mean by power factor being able to push the 20 digital phones speakers. I believe so. We have 3 case none of which are completly full I have been told that toshiba has a limit of all call paging phone but it is much higher then we have set. If that is not what you mean by power factor then no.
I almost think I know exactly what is going on but I'm not positive.

"but the rest of the page can be heard on the overhead speaker

It sounds like you have a store and page device where the output of the paging output of the CTX goes to a secondary box that stores the page (perhaps 20 seconds) so there will not be any loud squealing feedback and then broadcasts the page from the digitally stored voice recording.

Ahhh, and it could be on only one zone, for instance a wherehouse where there is an echo problem and not in the other zones.

To my knowledge we do not have any secondary box that stores the page. We do have amps of course to power the speakers(70v system)and (24v system). the page seems to be really time on all over head speakers and phones. The problem does not appear to isolated to just one zone either. In fact we have two paging cards and it happens on both paging cards. Thanks for all of the help.

From IT Admin,
We have a CTX670 with one zone and the issue we had was when you started to page and the phone rang the page would be cut off in favor of the ring tone. I think this is because we use pool keys and all phones ring for any call to the building, a requirement due to us handling chemical emergencies at my company.
The way we fixed it was to buy an overhead paging system and page it like an extension. Not really what we wanted but the vendor said that was the only way to do it.
So I wonder if the paging at the phones in question are being cut off by a incoming call? Just a guess because it sounded familiar to me.

IT Admin,
The issue we are having happens on phones that have pool keys as well as no pool keys. What I mean is the phone the starts the page some have pool keys some do not. As well as the phone that cuts out some have pool keys some do not. However the issue you are speaking about I have been told is fixed with the new software update from toshiba that just came out about a month ago.
I was going by: "But sometime when some one does a #39 the person will start the page and the phone will cut out but the rest of the page can be heard on the overhead speaker." If that person's phone goes dead, and you can still hear the page going out it would have to be stored or the phone is not really going dead.

That said, if you want to replace the Toshiba paging outlet and try it, you could put a PI-DKT-R from www.pageindustries.net on a spare digital port. Look under Toshiba Compativle Peripherals.

All they do to page is dial an extension.

I have also done it on spare CO ports and dial up the line.

If I ever give an incorrect answer it is not because I am ignorant, I am simply 61 years old, 25 memory cells left and cranky.

Thanks old blond hippity hopping bunnie. """"I was going by: "But sometime when some one does a #39 the person will start the page and the phone will cut out but the rest of the page can be heard on the overhead speaker." If that person's phone goes dead, and you can still hear the page going out it would have to be stored or the phone is not really going dead.
""""" What I ment by that is the person paging does not cut out but let say my phone will cut out. I am just listen to the page and then it cuts out, but you can still hear it on the over head speakers. Sorry for not making my self clear. We did have a page to extension for a while with our old phone system. But we would like to use the page zones the way they were ment to be. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Thanks,

I believe that the only way you are going to solve this is with record keeping or wholesale replacement of cards.

If you put out a notice asking people to send you a note if a page coming to their phone cuts out before it is obviously finished. Check the six digit equipment number and see if the phones are all on the same card or same 2 cards, if so replace the card(s).

If the phones are on many cards, look at the production numbers on the bottom of the phone and see if they are from one lot.

No one could solve this with an site visit because it is such an intermittant. Only with record keeping or a call to Toshiba to see if they have a known issue on this can you hope to find the problem.

I will do that. Thanks for all of your help. I think this site is going to be a great help and i may be able to help some people as well

You still might have a power factor issue, as Steve Mull mentioned. Checking your power factor requires checking the power requirements on ALL the cards in a cabinet, plus the phones.

You said you have 90 phones. If they are all in the same cabinet then you have exceded the power factor for that cabinet. You can have a max of 80 DKTs per cabinet. There is a worksheet in the installation guide.

Maybe adding ceiling speakers would be a solution.
