I've got a handful of 4624's of unknown origin that aren't taking their TFTP downloads. The same configuration works with all of our other 4624's and 4612's in our office but not these. After using the secret reset procedure they pull an IP address and grab the 46xxupgrade.scr file and start grabbing bbla0_83.bin, get 9k into it and then freeze with File Transfer Failed: bbla0_83.bin on the display. We had been using the firmware that came with 3.0.59 but I grabbed the most recent from Avaya's site that appears to be from July 2008 and it does the same thing. Watching with a packet sniffer shows normal transfer for the first 18 blocks and then repeated sending of the 19th block by the server.
Any ideas?

First off, I'm assume you have these phones plugged into an IPO 403,406 or 412.
I'm sure you have already tried unplugging the network cable out of the back of the phone while the network or sever is still up and plugging it back in?
A 4624 is what I have sitting on my desk.

Yes, it's a 403. The model on the back is the same as a couple others that are running, 4624D01A. I have unplugged and replugged repeatedly.

They are used, we had a pile of them in the warehouse and wanted to use a few. We're just using them internally, the customers want/get the fancy ones :-)

We've done it with a Linux tftp server and with one on Windows but not Manager.

I dont know if it matters if they are grey market or not. Have you tried opening one of them? I did and was surprised to find out that the electronics are made and engineered by a different company and only the housing, button PCB and maybe firmware are maybe avaya.
I know this is not much help, but the 9600 series are 100000x better and really avaya phones. Plus personally like the looks much better.
are you sure its supposed to be pulling a .scr file? It may be different for IPO, but on my CM 4 it pulls down .txt files and if needed a .bin file.

try a continuous ping to the ftp server while the download is going on. Also, plug directly in to the 403(if using poe injectors.)
have you made any changes to the .scr or .txt files?

I grabbed the newest firmware directly from Avaya, unzipped it into the tftproot and pointed the phone to that and still didn't get it to update. I think it's Celestica or a similar name that's making most of the parts. That's who we send the broken ones back to :-)
