From the Admin manual:
"EXTERNAL ALERT— If an optional external alerter (buzzer) is part of your system, you can set when it will turn on for each line. (Possible settings are Never, Night Only, Day Only, and Always. Installed setting is Night Only.) NOTE: Night Only and Day Only are determined by whether Night Service is on or off (see User Manual)."

From the Product Information manual:
EXTERNAL ALERT
"The Wheelock DCI-48-48 is an interface unit for powering 48 V DC telephone bells, chimes, horns, strobes, and other external alerts for electronic key systems. The 6-position modular INPUT connects to the control unit ALERT jack while the 6-position OUTPUT connects to the alert device.
The DCI-48-48 should be wall-mounted within seven feet of the control unit and within six feet of the AC outlet. This unit should use the same AC duplex outlet as the control unit, to ensure that the ground wire is common to both units."
So you could use the 48VDC to drive a relay if that's what you're ultimately looking for

they have loud ringing using co lines to pa2a and that worked fine until they went to spectrum. it doesnt seem to recognize ringing now. i set the ksu for ext alert always but i dont get any break at the contacts when tested with ohm meter. i also checked for ac voltage and found none. is it possible the ksu generates a 48vdc from that port when calls ring in. i was planning on using a contact closure from ext alert port to the viking unit contact closure screws and get ringing that way but it doesnt look like that is going to happen.

The Spirit should be outputting DC voltage, I think on the Black/Yellow. here's AT&T's connection diagram. You could also call Viking's tech support on the PA2A, I had a similar situation a long time ago, and they had me do something that I can't remember, but maybe it was a separate groung. ![[Linked Image]](https://sundance-communications.com/forum/gallery/58/full/951.jpg)
