Hello, all. I have a customer with an Axxess system that I have inherited for servicing. I have the software installed on my laptop, but I'm having some difficulty properly connecting my laptop and communicating with the Axxess. I've done some searching for answers, but there is something that I'm missing. My laptop has just USB ports on it so I have a USB to DB9 adapter. After that, I have a 6' DB9 cable. Do I just connect that to the DB9 "com2" port on the front of the EVMC card or is there another way that I'm supposed to go about this? I can't seem to find any information, unfortunately. Thanks for the help! Greg

Hi Greg: Welcome to the board. You REALLY need to get your hands on a manual. If you're not familiar with Inter-Tel, even once you get connected, this is going to be different than anything you've encountered before. Inter-Tel is a different animal. That being said, it's a good animal. As for the connection, it's totally different than what you're thinking. When you come off a serial port on a computer, you go into a mod-tap to convert the serial port to an RJ. You then use a 4 pair phone cable (per Inter-Tel) to go from there to the RS-232 port on the CPU card. You can often use a three pair cable, but I keep 4 pair made up and on the truck. That is what Inter-Tel calls for and I actually have had cards before that wouldn't connect with 3.

I finally got in! I just went to Graybar and bought a DB9 female to RJ45 adapter for $3. Then following the description by JJ here: https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/Forum4/HTML/000587.html I was able to connect and make my changes. The F1 key helped out as well. As you guys know, it seems that each manufacturer uses different names for the same stuff like "stations" Sets" and "Extensions". I didn't have to do much. Just some extension name changing, redirecting some digits and stuff like that. Anyway, thanks a bunch! Greg

Glad it worked out Greg. I should have thought to mention the F1 Key.
Good luck. :toast:
