About 28 years ago I purchased an Inter-Tel/GLX telephone system for my small office. It served me very well.
Some years ago I moved the Inter-Tel system to my house, had all the floors wired for it and it worked very well in my house as well. But it’s an aging system now and needs replacement.

My needs are simple as it’s not going to be used for business. I have a VerizonFIOS phone line and am getting either MagicJack or NetTalk Duo Wi-Fi or similar for a second line. So 4 lines 8 extensions is more than enough.

In my research I came across Xblue Networks X16 system, which seems appropriate for my needs.

My questions are:

* Are there any other systems similar in price/features to compare with?

* Any opinions on Xblue systems?

* Is VOIP phone system something I should look at?

Besides reasonable price, simplicity and ease of installation/configuration are important.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xblue X-16 is a great little system that will do what you want it to do. So easy to program even a CG could do it

I'm also in agreement on the X-16. It will do everything that you need (and then some) for a very reasonable price. As for your question about VoIP..... If you really needed it, you wouldn't even have to ask.

You're already using VoIP with FiOS and Magic Jack, etc. to connect with the outside world. You will be just fine following the direction that you are heading. Don't waste your money on exorbitant pricing of IP systems.

If you must insist upon IP for internal communications between extensions, XBlue has the X-50 system that will help you satisfy that need, but it is quite a bit more expensive. It is an unnecessary expense for your application.

I'm not sure if they took a bandsaw to it or what, but there's an X-25 announced. However, in a small 3x8 or 4x8 system, the X-Blue 16 will work just fine.

I'm going to crash this party and recommend something else. Check out the TransTel line they have several small systems. There are two versions of the Lynx which are much like the X16 but has more features or the G1E starts at 4x4x8 they both have full function analog ports.

I agree with Skip. Hard to beat. A DSX-40 would work well for this type of deployment.

While I'm probably going to get flamed for offering this perspective, and although I'd agree they still appear to be good products, I haven't had much interest in selling Xblue or other systems from similar small manufacturers for a few reasons...

The largest one is that, by comparison, most companies like Xblue, TransTel, etc haven't been around for very long...and in today's changing market, who's to say if they're really going to be in the future? At least in the case of Xblue....their corporate headquarters is here in K.C. and I've yet to see one of their systems installed anywhere here. They're a very small company.

If the manufacturer later goes out of business, you may have a really tough time finding replacement parts (and qualified techs) when you need them. It's just something to think about. Resale value would be the other thing to consider.

Personally, I advise my prospects (whether they end up buying from me or not) to stick with a larger name like NEC/Panasonic/Toshiba. These companies all have other business units to keep them going in tough times and have proven they'll be around for the long haul...

I'd agree the DSX is a good system, but I'd also take a look into the Panasonic KX-TA824. It's a great residential system with modular design and easy PC programming....and it's usually cheaper than the DSX.
