Hello.

I need a phone to support around 12 digital extensions, 4 analog extensions, caller ID is a must !

It must also use the same phones as the Samsung idcs 500 and idcs 100 phones. No VOIP needed.

I have already worked with an iDCS 500 and an idcs 100(release 2) so I kind of have an idea of how they work.

I am wondering is if the iDCS 16 is a scaled down version of the iDCS 100 system?

16 extensions would be more then enough to cover the home office project.

It has been a few years but if I remember right about the iDCS 100, there are some supported digital extensions in the motherboard even without any expansion cards.

Does the iDCS 16 have like 16 extensions right from the motherboard( 12 digital, 4 analog) ?

If so, is that the max capacity of the system?

Would I also be correct in assuming that Caller ID was not supported in the system unless you had special expansion cards to support this feature?

Thanks.

Well the iDCS616 will only support 12 digital extensions + 4 analog. You state you need 13 then say 16 total is fine.
If it's a release 2 then it will support the same phones otherwise release 1 only supports the DS24 digital phones. Both versions can do call display if they have the SIO card.If it was my choice I would take an iDCS100 if you can get one.

It requires release 2 to use the newer phones ? The idcs 100 and 500 can use both the older or newer phones on any released version right ? Is the idcs 16 much older than the idcs 100/500 ?

Is the idcs 100 preferred over the prostar dcs system(which I think uses the same cards idcs 500) ?

Does the idcs 100 use the same cards as the idcs 100 ?

I can get by with 12 digital phones

Thanks

Yes release 1 only runs the DS24 phones.Release 2 added support for the iDCS series along with support for the SVMi voicemail.
The DCS prostar will support DCS,iDCS series telephones.iDCS will require the correct software to run them. The 100 was newer but also now discontinued. It was a decent switch as was the Prostar DCS.Both systems can be picked up for a good price but depending on what cards you have in your OS500 you may have parts that will work in the DCS.

What about the caller ID feature? Do you also need release 2 for that? Also, do you need special hardware cards for caller ID support?

I think with the DCS compact, you need a card that ends with " 1" such as a trk-A1 card, expn-A1 card,etc...

Is there something like that with the Prostar DCS system as well as far as a hardware requirement for caller ID?

Thanks.

For a ds 616 you need an sio3 for cid to digital and analog phones and a release 2 for a svmi2e vm. For an idcs 100 you have to have a misc card for the cid. The idcs 100 will support a svmi 8e in an expansion cabinet if you have one from your 500 otherwise you can use svmi4 or 4e.
Go with the 100.
