I have about 31 DS1s coming to me from various IXCs over Verizon ILEC copper.
I'm prospecting both Verizon and Bright House to quote me to haul those DS1s to cross-connect over fiber instead.
The Verizon Business people simply refuse to call me back -- ever; it's been 2 weeks now.
Bright House, for their part, tell me the fiber extension is easy but the sales rep isn't entirely familiar with whether they can cross-connect me to my IXCs as a port of my current service contracts. He's happy to sell me ports, though, in addition to the transport.
Anyone got any insights (or merely commiseration :- ) on either of these points?)

31 T1s is quite a bit. Have you tried to price out a muxed DS3 with a provider?

Well, from the responses I'm getting from everyone, no one is provisioning new T-3 copper anymore; if you want it, you take an OC-1 or OC-3, and mux as needed; my L3 link is 7 DS-1s and 10MB/s of IP, and it's on an OC-12 SONET tributary...
But yes, that's the thrust of my question.
I'm kind of looking for anyone with recent experience therein.

I've not ordered something like this on the retail side but on the wholesale side you would tell the IXC you are using customer provided access and give them the DS1 CFA of each timeslot in the DS3.
What you are asking for is fairly common among smaller ISP's that provide T1 service.
You will never have a DS3 delivered to the building strictly on copper, it's always going to be in a SONET ring.
Perhaps if you order/request as a CO mux with a DS3 loop.

To be clear, *I* don't need it as a DS-3; individual DS-1s peeled off the SONET ring are fine with me...

The LEC here and possibly in other areas will trunk it around as a DS3 and let you mux it back out on your end. With that method you can save cost over discrete DS1's also.

A DS-3 is 28 T-1s. If you need 31 T's it won't be quite enough.

It kind-a depends on what Telco you're dealing with I guess.... But a few times a year we’ll install DS3 level circuits on existing copper, with equipment that uses the same concepts as IMA (inversed multiplexing.) Works VERY well when trenching in glass to a customer/end-user isn’t feasible.

Anyone got any insights (or merely commiseration :- ) on either of these points?) You’re providing quite the puzzle here with the multiple IXC’s… If you’re bringing in circuits from multiple IXC POP’s (point of presence) I having trouble thinking of a ways that consolidating to ONE DS3 to your location would simplify anything nor eliminate any cost for you.

If he wanted to consolidate service to 1 or 2 providers, he could order (1) muxed DS3 (28 T1s) with provider "A" and have 3 single T1s left over with provider "B".
He would need to crunch numbers to see how things look.
