Okay, not a cable installation story, but a backboard installation story.
I’m installing equipment in a newly constructed office suite. My specifications for the telco closet spell out the electrical requirements and a gray ¾†plywood backboard.
I arrived to start mounting equipment, and find a sheetrock wall in the closet. After tracking down the contractor, he can’t understand the problem. Underneath that beautiful white sheetrock wall is, you guessed it, a gray ¾†plywood backboard. :bang:

Use longer screws or better yet get him to put a new piece of plywood on top...

I see that a lot. It makes the plywood fire compliant. Just use long screws, like the man said.

Yep, they put another piece of plywood on top.
With 2†lag bolts screwed into an inch and a half of plywood, you could do chin-ups on my rack!
