I know the fluke series of lan testers can test network cables including cisco switches but at one time usd my own tester and it appears that the other tech forgot to disconect the patch cable and my cat5 tester was cooked by the POE voltage the Cisco switch gives out.
Want to know what brand of Cat5 testers are on the market that can work safely in a POE ethernet enviroment and pehaps offer some of the nice features of a Fluke linkruner?
My tester that I have used was a testum. Good tester but not POE compatible.

I am a bit of a Test-um fan too. When you look at the price of that compared to a Fluke DSP or an Agilent wirescope or framescope it looks a lot less pricy! I have not used that particular tool, but other tools in the test-um lineup have been pretty good when i have used them.
Don't get all sweaty and lean on the block...it tingles a bit!

Just got the Test-Um NT955 about 6 months ago, love it. It came with the Plan-Um Software and I can import Cad prints/drawings and do everything I was doing with Visio, just with one program. We have used the new machine on Cat 5E, Cat 6, RG-6, Cat 3 and live network so far. Reports are great and easy to import to the Paln-Um for printing or Media.

Are you wanting a tester that will actually test the POE voltage, or just work safely in that environment? Most testers should actually work safely with POE. The switch needs to see a signature voltage in the connected device before turning on POE. I would assume most newer cable testers are safe to use with POE unless they specifically say otherwise.
