sparky has flex popped through and mudded in...

Not flex, that's the cable. Either type MC or AC (AC used to be called BX). They have to use that in a commercial hung ceiling. Tapers probably got carried away and mudded the openings.

I would just cut holes through both sides with your saw and run your cables. Remember to support them off the ceiling grid.

I just looked at "easy sleave" and it is as fast as 1" hole saw slide the metal sleave in and lock down with rings.

Looks like a real pro when your done.

Dang, Wayne! You must be making the bucks to use those. Skip is in Florida, we just use a 18" piece of conduit. They're usually free if you don't mind going in the construction dumpster.

You guys are lucky to be in areas where BOCA and NEC standards aren't strictly-enforced.

Sleeves are required with bushings on all wall penetrations in plenum ceilings here, regardless of the fire rating of the wall. Fire caulk is also required for horizontal AND riser penetrations. That stuff is expensive.

If this isn't reqired in your area, all that I can say is to make money while you can!

This is how our competition beats us out in bidding. They don't pull permits or get inspections (they usually aren't licensed and capable of doing so anyway). The customers are only looking to save a buck, so they don't consider licensing as being an issue when selecting a vendor.

These unlicensed contractors come in after the final inspections have been done, punch holes through walls with a screwdriver, and work in the night.
