i have used procomm+ & hyperterminal nothing happens. new to samsung, customer said last vender did remotely. is there a switch or setting for local/remote programming?

Which SVMI is this?. They can get into it remotly from several ways depending on the type of voicemail.
As for hyperterminal and procomm+ how were you connecting? speed, parity, flow control. These are all specific if you are connecting directly via the sio port.

should work with your settings Jimmy, emulation ANSIW VT100, also turn word wrap off. Hit esc... I have had trouble with hyperterminal in the past, but i'm 100% certain its an issue with my laptop because the desktop works fine with the same site.

I have found sometimes that the svmi4 (not e) will connect at 19200. On a different note if they are connecting remotly to a 4 then they are using an external device for that. You might find 9600 is the working speed.
Also NO flow control.

Do you have your cable wired as in the manual? Are you using the escape key to logon?

The serial cable for SVMi is a straight through cable but with both ends female. Most DB9 cables that are female on both ends are null.
The cable for MEM3/MCP1 is a null but with one end female and one end male.
