Hello all,
I'm wondering what is the maximum distance from the switch can a Comdial Impact extension (station) be supported over Category 3 cable? Does the reliable distance increase if using Cat 5? If so, what is the maximum reliable distance over Cat 5? Thanks in advance for your insight!

I believe the manual tells you 1500 feet, so that is what Comdial will support. I would suspect that cat 5 would lower your distance because it has more resistance due to the twists. There is no advantage to using cat 5 for voice on traditional digital sets. That said I have had impression sets working at 4200 feet with no trouble at all. A good test is to chicklet a couple of boxes of wire together and hang a phone on the end and test it. I used 5 1000 foot boxes and tested a set for a week before setting up the phones 4200 feet away from the system. Mark

Thanks Mark! I never considered testing thru full boxes of cable and failed to consider the added resistance over Cat 5. My distant stations are only about 600 feet from the switch so it looks like we'll be fine.
Thanks again and please don't be insulted by my tardy response. Thanks to you, I can proceed with confidence. This forum rocks!
