I am looking for device/equipment suggestions to connect several sites back to a central location the 4 remote sites and the central site are within a 2 mile radius, with the central site being maybe a half mile from the Central Office. Was looking at getting dry pair Qwests (LAXX) circuits installed from each site back to the main, and using TUT LRE devices to connect them. Has anyone worked with any equipment of this sort?

Patton Electronics in Maryland has some units that do 50mb/s over a pair.

I think the circuits you want are off tariff now so you won't be able to order them. If you can find a CLEC in the CO that serves these addresses you may be able to get them to do something to help. We use equipment from www.actelis.com and it's great.

Looks like most of these are limited to about 6000ft but they have a lot more bandwidth than I was expecting to find. Thank you for the information guys.

Four radio shots? Might be the cheapest way out! OOPS, Colorado, so much for that idea! John C. (Not Garand)

Actually they are installing something called Free Space Optics, and this is just for a fail over backup circuit.

The easiest option is to try an ISP that can hook you up to a MAN (metro area network). Many use EADs (Ethernet Access Devices or Ethernet Extenders) such as the Actellis products. These devices bond pairs to achieve up to 100MB/S on distances considerably higher than 6000 ft depending on line quality. Ofcourse the extra pairs or/and repeaters will cost you accordingly. If you are technically profficient, you can install and setup the equipment yourself, but it's not for the squeamish. If you go all the way by yourself, you will also probably have to order and setup symmetric DSL circuits - from a cooperating telco, hmmm. The cheaper EAD boxes, which would cover your need of 4 remotes, transmit Ethernet over SHDSL/VHDSL (not SDSL) pairs. The quick and sirty option is to put in place your own DSL WAN. (Always assuming a cooperating DSL provider). Since this is a backup circuit maybe you can justify the cost-for-quality tradeoffs. Some flavors, such as ADSL2+ can give you over 20 megabits per second in download speed on the cheap. Get a few routers/bridges, order PVCs and you can get going.

If its not setup yet,
The really quick (and easy) way to do it is contact someone like Megapath or some other outfit that specializes in this sort of thing. They would set up a small Cisco router (probably an 871) and WAN circuit at each location and manage the VPN for you.
Cost vs. time.....
