Look on page 19 at the source for the 980A. They're still in business and they have the 9980A tool. It may not fit 66 quick-clips since it is designed for:

T9980A Wire Removal Tool. The T9980A Tool is used for removing terminated wires from 112 and 78 type terminal blocks on COSMIC MDF’s.

Next ?, what is a COSMIC type MDF? I assume that COSMIC is a.......... oh heck whatever the word is for a word made from the first letter of several words. (Like a lot of military catchwords)

They are a distributing frame used in COs...Avaya sold that line to Systimax. Who knows what COSMIC stands for, lol

Turns out Sandman still sells the hook...It's a Neuses N-724A.

Well we've all gotten off the subject somewhat though still related. A search on the part number Jeff supplied gives this WEB site I called and they are $16.50 each with a $50 minimum order. So maybe Sandman's price isn't so bad.

I'm simply amazed at how many responses this question has generated. I don't even think about what method I use to do this. I just pull the wires off and if there is any residue, I clean it off by whatever method or device is handy. If a Spudger isn't handy, I'll use a pen knife or even the corner of my small pocket screw driver blade. I guess the biggest issue is when I am cleaning old salvaged blocks and then I almost always use my spudger. Should I find clip fatigue during a service call, if squeezing it back together doesn't feel right, I'll abandon the clip after labeling it or simply add a 66 block piggy back quick clip (Suttle #SE183A2) :shrug:

I've seen picks aka spudgers at home depot and lowes before, if you can't find one.

I think the red handled tool was a lot more useful back in the day when there was More 25pr cables punched down " on top of each other" it was a lot easier using that tool than trying to get in there with a Paper-clip? ( never really tried that )these days,if you need to pull off some 1pr cross-connect, it's really no big deal. speaking of old telephone tools, I was showing some of the newer guy's the old wooden tool with the spring clip on it for extracting the Light bulb's on the Old 1a2 phones...That was Indispensable. :dance:

I replaced mine with a new one in the early 90s and it still looks brand-new. It is sitting right next to my hand wire-wrap tool. At least one of the members here (John C.) took my old 3M plug tool off my hands! I can't remember the last time I had used that one. Bill, CRS has set in. I can't remember the last time I've used a lot of things anymore.
