Hey we want to hook up a fax machine on one of the phone lines but we have to go through the phone system (Nec electra professional level 2).
This fax line will be used as a regular voice line while not in use (mostly for calling out).
Doesn't the fax need to be routed through the phone system?
I suppose I could connect the fax machine to the phone line before the line connects into the phone system. I'm just trying to get an idea on how to go about faxes and phone systems before connecting it.
I was thinking about options such as a device that allows me to connect a regular phone to the phone line to correct the voltage. But then how would we program the system to recognize faxes?
In fact, what device could I use that would allow me to connect a regular phone (instead of a NEC ETW-16 phone) through the phone system strickly for dialing an access line by dialing 9?
Thanks!

(A much easier way to ask:)
Is there a way to connect a "POTS" analog touchtone phone (a plain old phone) to the phone system where you dial 9 or something for line pool on this nec electra pro II system?
Thanks

Yes, a SLI-(F)-8 ( 8 port analog extensions ), or, a SLT-U20 ( analog adapter for ESI port ).
