Hello!
I have adopted a Vodavi 1428/2856 system. All has been working well. Things were set up for uploading the database using a laptop with pcplus.
The system lost power and all of its settings. When I went to upload the database, their laptop was missing. I have an XP box connected via hyperterminal, but I am getting errors when I try to upload the database.
It tells me "Default hit on Admin upload" among others. It then just sits and hangs.
I am connected fine using 2400 8N1.
Can anyone help me with the proper settings / procedure to upload a database using hyperterminal? I am already connected, just cannot get the database in.
Many thanks! -Cosimo

You should be in flash 86, button #1, then hit hold. Press "Page Up", then the file transfer page, etc. will pop up where you select the file name to upload.
Make sure that you are using XModem transfer protocol.

Thanks for the quick reply!!
Ok, I tried it with XModem and hyperterminal reported "no response"
The docs that I have say to use pcplus and to use Raw Ascii for the file transfer.
The only version of pcplus that I have access to is a "test drive" version. It has an an ascii file transfer option, but no "raw ascii" option. When I try with the ascii option, it loads the first a handful of characters then tells me "default hit on admin build event"
I copied the error below :
ENTER PROGRAM NO adm>, ENTER PROGRAM NO adm>86 LOAD DATABASE ROUTINE ENTER BUTTON NUMBER adm>q UPLOAD DATABASE PRESS HOLD adm>1801456e672e205665722e20322e33472d30333834000000fb default hit on admin build event
adm>2f ENTER PROGRAM NO adm>
Any suggestions?

What software version does the system have? If it is very old, then ASCII needs to be used, but the upload process is slightly different. I'll need to know the software version before we can go any further.

Ok, When I first connect It tells me :
2856 Digital Key-System Eng. Ver. 2.3G-0384 DATE: 01/11/89 Time: 10:45:50 ENTER PASSWORD: adm>
Sorry I have not set the date and time yet...I was going to do that after the db was uploaded.

OK, that is older software:
Try changing your Procomm to ASCII. Then, after flash 86 and button #1 (Q), but DO NOT press enter. Instead, press page up, select the file to upload, click OK, THEN press enter.

Ok, it did the same thing:
adm>1801456e672e205665722e20322e33472d30333834000000fb default hit on admin build event
adm>2f
But now I am noticing that pcplus thinks the transfer is still going. It is counting lines and telling me to press esc to abort.
I was used to it scrolling on the screen what it was uploading.
I'll keep my eyes on it and reset things when it says it is done.
I'll let you know shortly what happens.
Thanks!!!

It finished uploading. I reset the system.
And it came back up beautifully!
Everything works as it should.
Thank you very much for your help. I have a very happy receptionist again.

Anytime. Thanks for letting us know how everything went. Oh, and............. I'm sorry, I should have informed you that you won't see a continuous stream of activity going on. That was probably the issue from the beginning.

It probably was. Oh well. At least now I do know that I can fix it when needed. And that is a very good thing.
Thanks again!
