I always thought that there was a standard version of call display but I noticed on my line at home that some of my telephones are not showing the same displays.
My AAstra 9116's show a call one way while my bedroom GE clock/radio/telephone and the on screen call display that comes with my Telco Digital TV shows the same call in slightly different formats.
It only seems to be for long distance, Centrix and cell calls. Normal POTS calls all display the same way.
For example I received a long distance call last night and the AAstra's showed the call as Long Distance for the name and --- as the number.
The 2 other non AAstra displays showed it as either Asterisk long distance or Asterisk unavailable. While slightly different displays for the number they did show Asterisk for the callers name.
I am served by a Nortel DMS 100 if that makes a difference.

Caller ID displays can only show information if they receive it. Not all TELCOs send name and number info with outgoing calls, and different phone manufacturers display this lack of info in different ways. If by POTS calls you mean local calls, it just means your local TELCO sends name and number info on all calls. Some cell providers send only number info while others send no info at all.
Sometimes the thoughts in my head get so bored, they go for a stroll through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.
