I installed a TA-824 a couple of years ago in an office that has sent faxes successfully to an office that has a TVA-50 until the office with the 50 replaced their fax machine with a Brother MFC4100. When the office with the 824 tries to send a fax on a line that isn't tied to the 824 it will complete successfully to the 50. The 824 office doesn't have any trouble faxing to other places.

The office with the 50 has a DSL line attached to the fax machine. They have replaced the filter and line cord.

My initial reaction is that it has to be the new fax machine, but the office with the 50 receives faxes from others, and as I said earlier, even from the office with the 824 if they send it on a line not tied to the 824. The 824 office has had the LEC out to test their line and it is supposed to be clean.

I'm stumped, but maybe I'm missing the obvious. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Any chance the office with the 824 also has DSL on the fax line? As far as that goes, I think it's pretty well accepted here that sending OR receiving a fax on a DSL equipped line is trouble waiting to happen. My initial reaction was that the Brother's audio 'front end' is either REAL picky, or REAL sloppy. 1 way or another it's not happy with the signal. And do you mean TVA-50, Orrr TDA-50. All that said, you do realize the problem is the Brother, I assume. Only thing I can recommend that doesn't include dumping the Brother is try turning over Tip and Ring in the phone jack. John C.

Lightninghorse,

I think you are right about the name for the 50. I did a copy and paste and didn't notice the discrepancy. Thanks for your idea. I will give this to the office with the Brother fax and see if they are willing to try this. (not dumping the machine, but swapping tip and ring)

I'm assuming the faxes are connected as extensions on the systems? If so, have you filtered the DSL prior to connecting the line to the TDA50? You should also check to see if you can adjust baud rate settings on the Brother. I'm no fax expert, but I'm pretty sure the 824 and the TDA50 is limiting the data throughput (is that the right word?) and the Brother is trying to receive at a higher rate or something to that effect. Hope this made sense or someone out there gets my drift and can explain it better.

It could be time for "The Stick", or any other switcher, although they have their problems as well. frown John C.

kevhawk,

Checking the baud rate seems like a good idea. They report that the 50 may accept a one page fax from the 824 occasionally, but it is very, very slow printing out.

I have given them all the suggestions. I don't know about "The Stick", but maybe a bigger hammer would work! I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks

plcspdr, welcome to the BB. Two things...

1) Lehigh Acres is where?

2) What system are we working with?

With that said, you should start a new thread so yo get help sooner...not tagged on the end of a non-specific topic.
