Hi Folks, I'm soon to be putting in my first Norstar CICS with a Messaging 100 and T7316e phones. Any tips would be appreciated. Do you ever use pre-wired blocks and double-ended amphenol cables, or does that not save enough time to bother with? Otherwise, I guess I would get a 10ft male to male cable, cut it in half, and punch them down. Should I use two 50-pair 66 blocks and put the two cables from the CICS down the two sides of one block, and terminate all my premises wiring on the other block? They had an electrician put in 19 wall outlets with cat5e, so there are 76 pairs, but I'll only be using 10 pairs. Would you add an extra block and just terminate all pairs, or wrap unused pairs back around the jacket? I'll be putting in 9 stations and 3 trunks (2 for voice and one for a fax). Should the fax machine be connected through the CICS, and that line also be used for outgoing voice if they don't have a heavy fax load? I may have some programming questions later if my vendor doesn't know enough.
What do you recommend for a UPS? Can an affordable UPS keep this system going for some hours, or do you just rely on the power fail circuit?
Trying to do my homework on this so I can do a professional job. I've worked on BCM400s at a bunch of RiteAids, but never installed one. TIA, HMcClure

If you've never installed one, you're in for some fun.
The only thing I do before the install is the programming here on the bench. The rest I do on site.
PM sent.

Wow diving into this without even having knowledge of basic structured wiring practices. Words are not even forming in my brain. I give you credit for trying to do your homework, but IMHO the "professional" thing to do is get trained before you start passing yourself off as a "professional". Or find a trained professional who will let you watch/help. This by no means is meant as an insult to you, only my belief in professional decorum. Please understand this is a USER forum and detailed installer programming information is permitted only in the private installer forums or through private mail. Feel free to ask your questions, but please adhere to the TOS. Dave you're just over the border from this new member, why don't give him a hand.

Not to put you down, but you really need basic training on all that. Hire a professional and get some OJT from the tech. Tell them up front that you want the training from them, because they need to be willing to do that for you and it will be taking them longer to do the install.

Thanks for the replies, guys  . Before anyone gives me a negative rating or something, I should introduce myself and a little of my background, if that's O.K. to do here. I'll have to do that later, because I'm helping my wife on a catering job tomorrow. A wedding for 160 people for the daughter of owners of an upscale restaurant. Need to get some sleep. NTlayoff: I always like to terminate all pairs--you never know when you might need them. But I've seen plenty of jobs done by supposed professionals where they wound extra pairs back, so I just thought I'd ask. Thanks for confirming that :thumb: . Later, H
