I have an old Meridian system in which the time & date do not move forward. I can change the T&D, but they remain frozen.
I suspect a hardware problem. Help!

Please give more info. What do you mean "Meridian"?
Are you talking about an Option-xx? Or are you talking about a Norstar that has "Meridian" on the phone? Or are you talking about a BCM ?

That's the latest & greatest of the version and not that old. Get your vendor to do a Re-Install for you. If that doesn't do it, buy a new one.

I was going to power cycle the system, but the last time I did that, on another system, I lost all the confgurations, programming, the works. The battery was bad.
Is there a way of checking the battery while the system is in service?

Not that I know of, but rebooting isn't the same as re-installing it. I'm no electronics genius, but to get to the cap you have to take the system physically apart and to do that while the system is running?????
I seriously doubt that the cap is bad on that system. If it is, it's not expensive at all to replace the cap. Besides on a small system like that the programming should be redone in no time at all to someone who knows what he/she's doing.

It may be a hardware or software issue. A reboot may give it a kick start. A re-install would be my 2nd choice if a reboot didn't help.
In either of those cases knowledge of how to program the system would be an essential prerequisite. There is always risk of losing of losing part or all the database when a system is rebooted even if the CAP is good.
If neither of these help, then it is a hardware failure and the system will have to be repaired/replaced or live without a clock.
