Yea, I was working for UCS then. The club wanted us to work on a float and I told them it was going to be a rowboat or I was back to Brooklyn. We got the rowboat, got the splice done and I was out of there.

So, were the politicians who approved this "new and improved" tank also fired or were they all re-elected?

Universal Communications Systems. They were a fairly large interconnect that specialized in PBX installations, particularly in hotels. They used to be in just about every hotel around these parts. I believe that if I'm thinking of the same UCS, they were headquartered in Roanoke, VA.

Ed is on the money again. They were in Roanoke and were a big deal for quite a while. They were eventually bought out by Bell South, who wanted an Interconnect arm.
They were owned by American Motor Inns who got tired of paying big bucks to the phone company for hotel systems. They were unhappy with their first few Interconnect experiences and so they opened their own company.
Hotels, hospitals, stadiums and some business work.
They did a lot of X-Bar early on and then switched to electronic. They had the private network in for N&W railroad that was a pretty big deal at the time.
I did the Bronx VA, a slew of hotels (Biltmore, Roosevelt, Milford Plaza and, and...)also Yankee Stadium, Van Cleef and Arpels, Tiffany's and who remembers anymore.
They were a decent outfit.
